Paul played a pivotal role in the spread of the Christ movement. In his missionary work, he proclaimed an idea that was groundbreaking at the time: faith in Christ is open to all people. Background, language, and religious tradition were not to be grounds for exclusion.
He championed this cause passionately, advocating for the inclusion of all people regardless of their religious background. They did not need to be Jewish, nor were they required to observe Jewish laws. This marked a departure from the missionary approach of the other apostles; a movement that began within Judaism thus evolved into a community of followers with a universal scope.
Faith in Christ became the defining mark of belonging to the emerging Christian community.
Baptism ritually sealed this transformation of life and sense of belonging. Paul’s theology transcended boundaries, raising questions about belonging, diversity, and community that remain relevant to this day.
