Paulus hat maßgeblichen Einfluss auf die Ausbreitung der Christusbewegung. Bei seiner Mission verkündet er eine damals wegweisende Idee: Der Glaube an Christus steht allen Menschen offen. Herkunft, Sprache oder religiöse Tradition sollen niemanden ausschließen.
Dafür streitet er leidenschaftlich. Paulus setzt sich dafür ein, alle Menschen unabhängig von ihrer Religion aufzunehmen. Sie müssen dafür nicht Juden
sein. Die jüdischen Regeln müssen sie nicht befolgen. Das bedeutet eine Neuerung im Vergleich zur Mission der anderen Apostel. Aus einer Bewegung innerhalb des Judentums entsteht so ein Anhängerkreis mit universellem Anspruch.
Der Glaube an Christus wird zum entscheidenden Merkmal der Zugehörigkeit zur entstehenden christlichen Gemeinschaft.
