I'm leaving, but where to?

Incense Boat with Peter and Paul

Hans Stylkindt

c. 1630/40

Silver

Domschatz Münster, Inv.-Nr. U.138

The incense container appears to "sail" like a small boat. At the bow stands a figure of Paul, while at the stern Peter serves as helmsman. Together they determine the fate of the vessel.

They hold different, yet equally significant positions. Symbolically, this represents the united leadership role in the history of the Church.
