Fabienne Verdier’s paintings open up a view of a world beyond the visible. They emerge from a series of 76 so-called "Rainbow Paintings."
Verdier translates the theme of redemption through Christ into a contemporary visual language. A transition—but to where?
Verdier’s titles are drawn from various cultures and languages.
"Dara Reaksmey, Rayon / lumière d'étoile" means
"starlight." It is written in Khmer, the language of Cambodia.
"Heimdall, Pôle du monde" alludes to Norse
mythology.
In this context, Heimdall is regarded as the guardian between worlds. Everything is interconnected through the cosmos. Thus, images of order, movement, and transitions within—and into—the universe emerge. They reveal forces in flux and boundaries separating other spheres. Verdier makes the intangible visible: the unity of creation within the cosmos and the hope for fulfillment.
She brings together diverse concepts of the afterlife from various cultures and religions, thereby hinting at shared questions regarding meaning, hope, and redemption.
