I'm leaving, but where to?

Reliquary panel with associated reliquary authentication

1728

Wood; silver, partially gilded; glass/crystal; paper

Domschatz Münster, Inv.-Nrn. DK.2020.138, DK.2023.1

Cathedral Dean Franz von Landsberg brought relics from Rome in 1728. Accompanying these is a relic authentication. Only a few aspects need to be added by hand in the form. An indication of the numerous and standardized distributions of relics from Rome. The Cathedral Dean had the relics placed in a precious display panel.

A relic itself does not look spectacular. Its origin and authenticity must be verified; only then can it be recognized as a relic. To this end, relics are directly labeled with small slips of paper known as *cedulae*. There are also so-called *authenticae*—documents that confirm the relic's authenticity.
